Shiroda People's Forum selects Adv Diya Shetkar for the "Friends of Shiroda - Best Social Worker" award
Social worker and Shiroda Congress leader Adv Diya Shetkar has been chosen for the "Friends of Shiroda - Best Social Worker" award by the Shiroda People's Forum, announced Pascal Rodrigues the convener of the Forum.
The Shiroda People's Forum consists of over 600 members, most of them residents of Shiroda and belonging to the Mining Dependent or Mining Affected families of Shiroda constituency.
Explaining the decision, Rodrigues said that Adv Diya Shetkar has been working tirelessly for the last 5-6 months in Shiroda. Irrespective of any political affiliation, she has helped hundreds of families and residents with legal issues, court matters and provided free legal advice and legal aid to the residents of Shiroda for the last 5-6 months. She is the only social worker in Shiroda who has supported the scheduled tribes of the area and provided them legal support and even paid their legal duties where applicable, in court. The Shiroda People's Forum Steering Committee met on Sunday morning and Adv Diya Shetkar was the unanimous choice of the entire committee.
The award will be given out at a function next week, Rodrigues said.
Meanwhile, residents of Bethoda, Borim and Panchwadi pointed out that acute water scarcity, unemployment and financial problems were the main problems plaguing the area and protested that the earlier MLA has done nothing over the last 10 years to solve these problems. Other problems include very irregular electric supply to most parts of the constituency, no street lights, zero maintenance of roads with potholes and rough roads dotting the entire area and very bad mobile connectivity with absolutely no mobile network in places like Nirankal, Panchwadi, parts of Karai, etc.,
A majority of the residents asserted that they wanted a totally new, young and hardworking face in Shiroda as their MLA in the coming by-elections. We would prefer to vote for an independent rather than vote for old fossils and dismal jimmies who have only looted the State and done nothing much for the people, the residents of Shiroda said.
