Poonam Karekar Govekar Couriers Parcels of Garbage to
Karan Johar to Protest Dharma Productions’ Dumping of Biomedical Waste,
Garbage At Biodiversity Hotspot in Goa, Thanks Kangana For Making
Littering A National Issue
Goan actress, environmentalist and
social activist Poonam Karekar Govekar Wednesday, couriered two
gift-wrapped leak-proof parcels filled with garbage and waste to
Bollywood producer Karan Johar to protest against the dumping of tons of
biomedical waste and other garbage at a biodiversity hotspot Nerul in
North Goa and the non-clearance of the same for several days in spite of
protests by local residents of the picturesque village about 10 kms
away from State Capital Panaji.
Poonam who has been agitating for cleaning of the beaches and country side, also thanked Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut for highlighting the issue of littering and dumping biomedical waste at Nerul in Goa by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and making it into a national issue. She also lamented that the Goan local media and Tv channels in Goa, did not highlight the issue in their own State and it took Kangana to make it a national issue.
Poonam Karekar Govekar was shocked – at the least, seeing videos and images of how Bollywood producer and presenter Karan Johar’s company Dharma Productions had littered the picturesque beach village of Nerul with tons of biomedical waste, used PPE kits, face protectors, sanitary napkins, plastic plates and spoons, bandages and other garbage and did not bother to clear it up for days, even after local residents raised a stink.
