IndiGo brings in medical CarGo to

IndiGo brings in medical CarGo to support the nation’s fight against COVID-19

 In its endeavour to support the nation in the current scenario, IndiGo operated an international CarGo flight, on the Kolkata – Guangzhou – Kolkata route on May 16, 2020. Flight 6E 1377 carried CarGo consisting of medical supplies like face masks and GCRs, from Guangzhou to Kolkata in ‘freighter mode’. The flights were operated while observing all precautionary measures.

Mr. Ronojoy Dutta, Chief Executive Officer, IndiGo said, “We have been successfully using our A-320 passenger aircraft in a ‘freighter mode’ helping maintain and support supply chains in and out of the country at this critical time. Having previously operated these CarGo flights to the Gulf region, South and Southeast Asia, we have now operated these flights between Kolkata and Guangzhou. IndiGo will continue to extend its support in this time of need, be it through CarGo flights or repatriation flights, as directed by the government. IndiGo continues to contribute and adapt its business to the needs of the hour”.

Mr Dutta further added, “We are grateful to the government for allowing to carry cargo in the cabin, which has enabled these operations during the lockdown period.”

IndiGo transports over 50T in its CarGo flights to Singapore and Maldives

In its endeavour to provide support to the nation in the current scenario, IndiGo operated three international CarGo flights, to and from Singapore and Maldives. IndiGo flights from Mumbai-Male-Mumbai, Trivandrum-Male-Trivandrum on May 02, 2020 and Mumbai-Bengaluru-Singapore-Mumbai on April 30, 2020 transported over 50 Tonnes of cargo including pharmaceuticals, fruits and vegetables in the belly and cabin. The flights were operated while observing all precautionary measures.

Having previously operated these CarGo flights to the Gulf region, we have now operated these flights to Singapore from Bangalore and to Maldives from Trivandrum and Mumbai. While flying medical supplies, fresh vegetables and other export cargo, IndiGo continues to contribute and adapt its business to the needs of the hour”.

Mr Dutta further added, “We are grateful to the government for allowing to carry cargo in the cabin, which has enabled these operations during the lockdown period.”

SpiceJet freighter carrying COVID-19 medical supplies from Shanghai landed in Delhi late last night (SG 7017). The aircraft carried approximately 18 tons of medical and emergency supplies.

SpiceJet is India’s biggest air cargo operator and the only domestic airline which has a dedicated fleet of freighters

SpiceJet has operated close to 522 cargo flights since the lockdown began carrying more than 3993 tons of cargo

The airline has transported essential items, cold chain medical supplies, medicines, medical equipment, relief material, IR Thermometers, Coronavirus Rapid Test Kits, face masks, sanitizers and essential surgical supplies etc.




SpiceJet was the first Indian carrier to operate a cargo-on-seat flight on April 7, 2020. The airline has now deployed both its B737 and Q400 passenger aircraft to ferry carry cargo in the passenger cabin

SpiceJet has operated special cargo flights to and from Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Singapore, Ho Chi Minh, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Bangkok, Colombo, Dubai, Kabul, Myanmar, Sharjah and a host of other places carrying vital supplies

From operating a special charter flight from Delhi to Coimbatore to carry a Hazmat suit, to operating a special flight from Delhi to Jodhpur for quarantine passengers coming from Iran, to operating India’s first cargo-on-seat flight carrying vital supplies, SpiceJet has been at the very forefront of this war against coronavirus
