IndiGo, through its creatives on anti-fake jobs campaign across social media and website is raising awareness of how certain people claiming to represent IndiGo are misusing the brand name and the names of IndiGo employees, demanding money in exchange for interviews, jobs, or trainings. The airline does not charge any money for conducting interviews, providing jobs, or imparting trainings on joining. IndiGo is also taking appropriate actions for cases that get reported, along with spreading awareness.

During the last few years, we have successfully collaborated with Law enforcement agencies who have been very helpful in apprehending these scamsters. However, we believe that this can be curbed completely only when gullible job seekers don’t fall prey to such people. I would like to reiterate that IndiGo does not charge the candidates and anyone seeking money from a candidate, however small it may be, is out there only to dupe people.”

Ronojoy Dutta, Whole-time Director & Chief Executive Officer, IndiGo said, “We have been cautioning job seekers through awareness campaigns via advisories and commercials. We believe that as the market leader, it is our responsibility to identify and control such malpractices that not just impact IndiGo but also other companies in the sector. We hope to put an end to this menace with support from the police department and awareness amongst people.”

IndiGo climbs 7 ranks to be #36 in Brand Finance Top 50

IndiGo climbs 7 ranks to be #36 in Brand Finance Top 50 Airline list

recognising the most valuable and strongest airline brands in 2021

-          IndiGo registered the highest gain in ranking this year

India’s leading carrier - IndiGo - has emerged as a stronger and more valuable airline brand over the last year as per the Brand Finance Top 50 Airlines Report 2021. IndiGo rose to #36 in 2021 from #43 in 2020, registering the highest gain of 7 points. IndiGo is the only airline brand to make it to the list from India, for the second consecutive year.

Savio D'Souza, Valuations Director, Brand Finance said, “IndiGo has been resilient in a tough year for the airline sector. Brand value across the sector dropped by -30% on average while IndiGo fell by the lowest, -7%. It is the fastest climber in ranking terms at #36 in the Brand Finance Airlines 50 2021 study. The brand rating of AAA- is testament to the effective execution of a robust corporate strategy in one of the most competitive markets in the world”.

Mr. Ronojoy Dutta, Wholetime Director and Chief Executive Officer, IndiGo said, “It gives us immense pleasure to see IndiGo taking a leap of 7 ranks, to be #36 in the Brand Finance Top 50 Airline brands list this year. This is a testament to the efforts made last year towards making IndiGo more efficient and resilient in the face of the pandemic, by providing a safe and hassle-free experience for our customers as well as employees. This recognition further encourages us to continue our tradition of on-time performance at affordable fares, with courteous and hassle-free service on our lean clean flying machines.”

Brand Valuation Methodology

Brand Finance calculates the values of the brands in its league tables using the Royalty Relief approach – a brand valuation method compliant with the industry standards set in ISO 10668. This involves estimating the likely future revenues that are attributable to a brand by calculating a royalty rate that would be charged for its use, to arrive at a ‘brand value’ understood as a net economic benefit that a licensor would achieve by licensing the brand in the open market.

IndiGo signs LOI to bring Freighters on board

IndiGo signs LOI to bring Freighters on board

Building on the success of the CarGo business in recent years, IndiGo - India’s leading carrier – has initiated a freighter programme and is in the process of sourcing 4 A321ceo aircraft each of which will be converted from passenger jets to a full freighter configuration.  A Letter of Intent has been signed with a lessor for two aircraft already, and IndiGo expects to reach agreement for the next two shortly.  The initiative will make best use of the natural synergies that IndiGo offers, using the same pool of pilots and engineers that fly and service its current fleet.

The A321P2F (Passenger-to-Freighter conversion) is the most efficient narrow-bodied freighter available, offering 24 container positions and supporting a payload of up to 27 tonnes. These are being converted through a programme involving ST Engineering and Airbus with their joint venture, Elbe FlugzeugWerke (EFW).

IndiGo is expected to take the delivery of its first freighter in the first half of 2022, which will be used for both domestic and regional missions. The remaining three aircraft in the initial commitment are expected to arrive within a year or so from arrival of our first freighter, and further aircraft may be sourced depending on market development.

Mr. Ronojoy Dutta, Chief Executive Officer and Wholetime Director, IndiGo said, “CarGo has been a success story over the last year, scaling new heights and creating new records, but our belief in the cargo business goes beyond the special circumstances right now. IndiGo was already the largest carrier of cargo in domestic India before Covid-19, and we expect the market to continue to grow after the pandemic.  Our investment in the Airbus Freighter Programme will help strengthen our product and services in the segment, and not only help accelerate our own business recovery but also be a strong engine of economic growth for the country.”

However, with the resumption of operations and a steady increase in demand for air travel, our priority has been to refund the credit shell amounts in an expedited manner. We are pleased to commit that we will disburse the full 100% credit shell payments latest by January 31, 2021. IndiGo marks 100 days of flying by enabling India’s first ever
blood plasma transport in CarGo
2nd airline globally to successfully transport plasma in CarGo
2 bags of convalescent plasma flown from Bengaluru to Srinagar

IndiGo, in its bid to support the country in its fight against the pandemic, created the first ever blood plasma corridor to save the life of a patient suffering from COVID-19. The plasma units were transported on IndiGo CarGo from Bengaluru to Srinagar via connecting flights. The plasma was first flown from Bengaluru to Delhi on 6E 363 followed by the connecting flight from Delhi to Srinagar 6E 2486. The plasma sustained a transit period of over 8 hours and was delivered successfully at the government hospital in Srinagar today. IndiGo is the second airline in the world to have transported plasma successfully onboard CarGo.

Shri B. Sriramulu, Hon'ble Minister, Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Karnataka speaking on the occasion, applauded the efforts of the IndiGo Team who assisted the medical team to achieve this feat on ground and in air! He emphasised the 4th T in the implementation strategy for COVID is Teamwork (5T -Trace, Test, Treat, Teamwork and Training). “It was a proud moment that Karnataka is leading the way to show how we can save lives by flying that extra mile.”

Mr. Ronojoy Dutta, Chief Executive Officer and Wholetime Director, IndiGo said, “At IndiGo, we are continuously looking for opportunities to contribute to the nation and our citizens’ fight against COVID-19. The creation of the first air corridor in India to transport blood plasma can have a huge positive impact on the treatment of COVID-19 patients through plasma therapy. I would like to congratulate the IndiGo CarGo team for making this possible and commencing a new chapter in the history of aviation in India”.

Dr. Vishal Rao, Associate Dean, HCG Cancer Hospital said, “At a time when the medical community is looking at possibilities to save lives of seriously ill COVID-19 patients, plasma therapy is one of the promising lines of treatment being explored. HCG Plasma bank has been able to cater to hundreds of needy critical patients. The creation of a successful air corridor opens up new possibilities for the treatment of patients with COVID-19 with plasma from anywhere in the country. We would like to thank Captain Rahul Srivastava, IndiGo CarGo team and BIAL in helping us save lives by making this possible.”

This was the first instance in the country, where two convalescent COVID Plasma bags were transported in CarGo from Bengaluru to Kashmir for critical COVID-19 patients. Recently, an inter-state green corridor - over a 348-km stretch for 4.5 hours - was created to transport convalescent plasma from HealthCare Global Cancer Hospital in Bengaluru to a private hospital in Chennai on August 04, 2020. Recently the US FDA has authorised the use of plasma therapy. It’s use in moderate, severe and critical illness can yield results of upto 100%, 80% and 60% respectively. Earlier intervention with plasma therapy in patients would be ideal to save more lives.

Important Update from

Important Update from IndiGo

Note from Ronojoy Dutta, CEO, IndiGo
The current pandemic has impacted many industries around the world, amongst which aviation has been one of the sectors that has been impacted the hardest. Even now, IndiGo is  flying only a small percentage of its full fleet of 250 airplanes.
Right at the start of this crisis, IndiGo understood the gravity of the situation. For us, it was critical to minimise the impact of the pandemic on our employees and in fact IndiGo was one of the few airlines globally which paid full salaries for the month of March and April 2020, despite the disruption in business. Subsequently, we did have to undertake a number of measures such as Pay Cuts, Leave Without Pay and various other costs; but unfortunately, these cost savings are clearly not enough to offset the decline in revenues. And from where things stand currently, it is impossible for our company to fly through this economic storm without making some sacrifices, in order to sustain our business operations.

Therefore, after carefully assessing and reviewing all possible scenarios, it is clear that we will need to bid a painful adieu to 10 per cent of our workforce. It is for the first time in the history of IndiGo that we have undertaken such a painful measure.
This is indeed a very unfortunate turn of events from the optimistic growth trajectory we had carved out for ourselves just six months ago;  but this pandemic has forced us to re-evaluate our best laid plans.

To help the impacted employees’ tide over the uncertainties emanating from this decision, IndiGo has created a ‘6E Care package’, the details of which are listed below.

Financial support
·  Notice pay in lieu:  Impacted employees will be paid notice pay in lieu of serving notice applicable to them. This will be calculated on the gross salary, basis the employee’s notice period.
·  Severance Payment: In addition to notice pay, impacted employees will be paid a severance pay which will be calculated as one month of CTC for every completed year of service, subject to a maximum of 12 months. This will lead to higher cash in hand in comparison to calculations on Gross salary
·  At a minimum, an impacted employee will receive at least 3-months’ gross salary, including both the above payments. Those with higher tenure with the company will receive more as per the above calculation method.
·  Annual Bonus / Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) (for Non- crew), FY 2019 – 20 : Payment of bonus / PLI shall be made when the Company decides to make this pay-out to the rest of the employees in this financial year, even after the impacted employee’s exit.
·  Longevity Bonus (Crew): For year 2020, longevity bonus shall be paid along with Full and Final to eligible crew members. This bonus is only applicable for cabin crews.
·  Leave Encashment, if any
·  Gratuity, as applicable per Payment of Gratuity act

Medical Insurance
  • Medical Insurance coverage for impacted employees will be extended until December 2020. There shall also be a provision to continue with the policy post December 2020 as per applicable market rates. For those employees who had covered their parents via the policy, such insurance will also be extended until December 2020. As is currently existing, payment will be borne by the employees.

Professional Support:  We appreciate how important continuity of career is to our people and we will do our best to assist. Following are the details for Professional Support.
·  6E Career transition support: In addition to the financial package outlined above, we will also provide the impacted employees, an “Outplacement Allowance” to support them seek professional help to explore career opportunities, outside IndiGo.
·  6E Talent Directory: We value the skills and experience they bring to the table. The directory will help us reach out to them, before anybody else, when we see our operations revert to normal. Needless to say, that it is our commitment to first hire such employees back before opening such positions to other applicants.
·  Recommendation letter:  Each employee who has been impacted will receive a personalized recommendation letter to vouch for their professional credentials

Emotional Support: We understand that these are trying times that can severely test even the best amongst us. To help the impacted employees tide over these emotional times, we will have the following Assistance Program.
·  1-0-1 Assistance Program - 3 months from the last date of employment with us. Details of this program will be shared with the impacted employees directly

One-way Air ticket
  • Should the impacted employees need to travel back to their hometown or base location, we will assist them with a one way confirmed air ticket.

This has been one of the toughest decisions that we have had to take and we are ensuring that the transition process for the impacted employees is carried out seamlessly, professionally; and with the utmost respect and compassion.  We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude and sincere thanks to all our people who have stood by us through thick and thin; and we are confident that both individually as well as collectively, we will emerge stronger out of this crisis.
