Krea University conducted an online webinar as a part of the ‘Krea Science Talks’ series on December 8, 2021 at 3:00 PM. The webinar titled ‘R&D and National Prosperity’ was led by eminent researcher Professor Deepak Pental, who was the former Vice Chancellor and Professor of Genetics, University of Delhi. Professor Pental will highlight the significance of research and development (R&D) in meeting national growth and development goals.

Commenting on the webinar, Vice-Chancellor Mahesh Rangarajan of Krea University said, “Through the Krea Science Talks, noted scientists share their research that have impacted our understanding of Indian society and the world in general. We are delighted that Professor Pental will be delivering the first lecture in this series. His insights and ideas for reforms will help our students and research enthusiasts get a better idea of the ways in which science and innovation can intervene with national prosperity.

Ltd. has been a part of this session, addressed the audience and shared his views on the challenges faced by SMEs during the pandemic and suggested ideas of growing the business Post Covid.

The event started with a keynote session delivered by Mr. Dinesh Gulati, COO, IndiaMART. He pondered into the main challenges faced by the SMEs in today’s world, namely, Access to Market, Technology, Finance and Talent. He mentioned that by introducing policies to further bolster the sector, by doubling budget allocated to the MSMEs in FY21-22, and through other initiatives like Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make In India the government is acting as an enabler. Many of the traditional banks are using alternate credit scores to pre-approve SME loans, and the technology has penetrated into the SME base and created 0.3 Mn enterprises. He through his session imparted the knowledge on how the small businesses can leverage the marketplaces, the various SaaS and Fintech solutions, and the new trends like Gig Economy which will help them to overcome the challenges and scale their businesses exponentially.

SMEs have huge opportunities for growth in the country but the pandemic had a significant impact on Indian SMEs, and there have been significant forced changes in the way SMEs operate today. But, there are some issues like access to credit, lack of collateral security, and poor financials that are affecting an enterprise’s ability to access banking and funding, inability to take advantage of many subsidy schemes introduced by the government, etc. Through this webinar leaders from different sectors came together, to name a few were Hemalatha Annamalai, Investor & Mentor, VilFresh - Laymen Agro; Navjot Kaur, Vice President, Fireside Ventures; Nazar Isak, Founder, Manna Food Products; Rahul Gupta, Times Internet. The Chair attempted to address some key issues that SMEs are facing and suggested tips and tricks on how to adjust to the new normal scenario through the session on ‘New Age SMEs in the Post Covid World.'

The session on the ‘Inspiring Brand Stories: Post-Covid Digital Transformation’ has assisted the audience to learn from experienced founders about their shift in business operations, during and post-Covid time and what were the major challenges the SMEs faced in adopting the new normal and how that shift happened.

‘Innovations on Financing for SMEs'  session featured insights from experienced investor firms on SMEs financing, with the goal of educating the audience on the various types of financing options available, the major challenges in obtaining them, and why there is a need to bring in innovative solutions to meet the financing demands of various types of SMEs.

Strengthening EU-India partnership on Disability Inclusion 

- European Disability Forum (EDF) along with Sightsavers India organised a webinar on Disability Inclusion in the attainment of SDG

- The webinar was organised as part of the EU-supported project, ‘Building Partnerships for Sustainable Development Goals – Empowering Disabled People’s Organisations’ 

The European Disability Forum along with Sightsavers India organized a webinar on ‘Strengthening EU-India partnership on Disability Inclusion in the Attainment of SDGs: Engagement of organisations of people with disabilities in SDG localisation’. Indian Organisations of People with Disabilities (OPDs), European Disability Forum (EDF) members, Sightsavers, Indian and Global Disability Experts, and civil society organisations (CSOs) along with EU and State government officials participated in the virtual event.  Speakers from both India and the EU shared perceptions of people with disabilities, their role in the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and localization at national and international levels.

The project behind the webinar, ‘Building Partnerships for Sustainable Development Goals – Empowering Disabled People’s Organisations’, supported by the European Union, is being implemented since March 2018. The project's overall objective is to work towards ensuring that women and men with disabilities engage in, shape, and monitor the implementation of the SDGs in India. Along with EDF as its partner at the EU level, Sightsavers is implementing this project in 5 Indian states of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, MP, Odisha, and Rajasthan. While working with 15 OPDs, the project intends to establish and strengthen policy dialogue and partnership between Indian OPDs and their European counterparts, the EDF.

 

In her keynote address, Cecilia Costa, Team leader – Cooperation Manager, EU Delegation to India and Bhutan, said, “Human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights are at the heart of the EU’s external action: be it in the programmes and projects it funds in different parts of the world or in the policy dialogue and cooperation with partner countries, international organisations and other stakeholders. In India with whom the EU has a long-standing relation in terms of development and other cooperation, it has followed a similar approach, and this project, implemented by Sightsavers India and European Disability Forum is one such example. While much is being done, by the Government of India, Donor organisations, and civil society, much more needs to be done to achieve inclusivity.”

Sandeep Rajak - Commissioner Disability, Madhya Pradesh, said in his keynote address, “India respects the UN SDG goals, and they have been the base for our Rights of Persons With Disabilities Act, 2016. With a global to local focus, and with the support of institutions such as Sightsavers, we are striving to build an inclusive society for persons with disabilities by providing them with facilities in key areas such as education, livelihood, housing, etc.  

In his welcome address, RN Mohanty, Chief Executive Officer-Sightsavers India, said, “Extreme inequalities are divisive and undermine societies and communities. Not just income inequalities but those inequalities that exist between different groups and result from persistent patterns of discrimination, unequal rights and historic disadvantage. The 2030 agenda is a powerful framework for addressing these issues.  Working towards this, we, at Sightsavers believe that people with disabilities have an equal right to achieve their full potential, just like everyone else. I look forward to continuing this crucial partnership with EU and EDF towards our shared vision of an Equal World.”

Welcoming the audiences to the webinar, Catherine Naughton-Director of the European Disability Forum, said, “The EDF promotes the rights of persons with disability in the EU and across Europe. Since the EU is an important global development partner, donor, with an important diplomatic arm around the world, we also advocate, for the EU to be a global leader in disability inclusion development. This project with Sightsavers is a strong example of the impact the EU can have on the rights of persons with disabilities in its work around the world. We are honored to partner with India to work on disability inclusion. This partnership has also helped enrich our work in the EU. As we come to the close of the project, I hope it is a beginning of longer-term cooperation in the relationship that we will have with all of you.” 

Marion Steff, International Cooperation Manager, European Disability Forum, said, “Given the position of the EU as the only region in the world having ratified the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, one of the largest donors of Overseas Development Assistance, and a major trade partner with India, the EU must lead by example. It must apply its leadership and champion the rights of persons with disabilities. We hope that the EU funded project between Sightsavers India and the European Disability Forum is the beginning of future promising work to respect, protect and fulfill the human rights of women, men and children with disabilities in India.” 

The webinar's focus was to highlight the intersectionality of gender and disability and related project initiatives and to share best practices and experiences of localising SDGs through the Disability Inclusive Score Card (DISC) process.  Sightsavers, European Disability Forum, Together 2030, and Newcastle University, developed the Disability Inclusion Score Card (DISC) with a focus on women with disabilities as participatory monitoring and accountability mechanism. 

Archana Bhambal, Area Director, and Namrata Mehta, Programme Manager - Sightsavers India moderated a series of short sessions on key themes such as Strategies For Empowering People With Disabilities, the roadmap to implementation, and advocacy for policy implementation. Arman Ali from the National Centre for Promotion of Employment of Disabled People (NCPDEP), Hussaina Bi from Mewar Viklang Samiti, Nomesh Verma from Kalyan Divyang Sangh, and Meelis Joost from the Estonian Chamber of Disabled, participated in the prorgramme. The webinar was supported with international and Indian Sign interpretation and captioning for the benefit of the participants with disabilities.

Webinar on six day NWOBE inaugurated ‘Accreditation will enhance the student’s future towards higher education and employability

The six day national workshop on “Perspectives of Teaching and Learning of Engineering Sciences for Outcome Based Education” (NWOBE 2020) under the aegis of AICTE - Margdharshan scheme, was organised by Dr.P.Raja, Dr.M.Venkatakirthiga and Dr.S.Moorthi, Associate Professors and coordinators,Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering,NITT. The program was inaugurated in virtual platform through CISCO WebEx meetings at 9.30 a.m. on 15th June 2020 by Prof. Dileep N. Malkhede, Adviser - I , All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE),New Delhi.





Dr.M.Venkatakirthiga, coordinator welcomed the virtual gathering and Dr.N.Sivakumaran,Chief coordinator,AICTE Margdarshan Scheme briefed on the various activities carried out and initiated for mentee institute.

He said so far eight Faculty Development Programmes were organized in the thrust areas with  participation of faculty members from each mentee institutions,Internships were arranged for B.Tech. Students and faculty members  in various departments for a period of one month,National level workshops were planned to be organized 
through VC mode, one is inaugurated today on NWOBE 2020 and other on ‘Research Methodology for Engineers’ which will be planned to be organized by next month and Shortly we are planning to arrange guest lectures from eminent industries and academician through VC mode on outcome based education.

Dr.Sankaranarayanan,HoD,EEE presented the felicitation address in which he had mentioned that the faculty members of NITT especially from the department of EEE have been involving themselves in online 
content delivery for quiet a long time. He also mentioned that the faculty members have understood the need of the hour and have developed skills to cope with the online mode of teaching and learning process.

Dr.P.Raja, coordinator,said the workshop is articulated to cover the following main themes on Higher Education - A global outlook,Pedagogical Approaches, Accreditation Process. He added that there were more than 110 participants registered from 14 mentee institutions all over Tamilnadu and also there were other participants from Maharashtra. Speakers have been arranged from reputed institutions like IIM Trichy, NIT Trichy, NITTTR Chennai, TLC IITM Chennai, Govt. Arts College Coimbatore and one professor from University of Victoria Canad lifting the workshop to the international arena.



Prof.Mini Shaji Thomas, Director NITT, in her presidential address,she said that the institute had achieved with a major milestone to be part of National Super Computing Mission (NSM), Super Computer,Prime 
Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF) Scheme and National MOOCs Coordinator for offering Engineering Courses at UG and PG level by MHRD, GOI.She also mentioned that this online mode of content delivery 
and online platform based interactions are going to be the nature of work in near future.

She added that AICTE Margdarshan Scheme will help to motivate the faculty members to enhance teaching learning skills and students to come up with innovative ideas and projects and widen the exposure to the prototype development on enhanced educational standards and research aptitude.This also facilitates to enhance the preparation of the mentee institutes towards outcome based education.She also thanked the Adviser AICTE for extending his support towards AICTE funded activities which have really helped the institute to move greater heights in various domains. 

She also mentioned about the importance of perception and outcome based education in various ranking forums highlighting that the Institute continues the dream run, moving up the ranking ladder by one slot to NINETH in NIRF ranking 2020 in Engineering category, and maintains the top position 
among NITs for the fifth year in a row! 

Prof. Dileep N. Malkhede, Adviser - I , AICTE,chief guest had inaugurated the first webinar under AICTE Margdarshan Scheme organised by NITT and he appreciated the efforts put in by the faculty members 
and the NITT administration in the recent past for having competing with the top IITs and for securing first position among non-IIT institutions. He also insisted the importance of accreditation upon the student’s future towards higher education and employ ability outside India.He appreciated the role played by NITT in mentoring the 
mentee institutions under the Margdharshan scheme effectively.He also congratulating NITT for having conducted online exams for the outgoing B.Tech. students and he stressed the importance of Outcome based 
Education which is the current expectation from all sectors.He also highlighted the significance of this workshop which would enable the Mentee institutes to prepare for National Board of Accreditation (NBA) in submission and processing of pre-qualifier and submission of self assessment report (SAR).
