Madras University VC inaugurates M.O.P Vaishnav College’s campaign supporting Plastic Ban Go 2019
The Vice Chancellor of Madras University, Dr.P.Duraisamy inaugurated the Public Relations Campaign of M.O.P Vaishnav College on the theme ‘Save the Earth’ supporting the Plastic Ban Go 2019 on 4th of January in the college premises.
The Post Graduate Department of Communication has been conducting several city-wide PR Campaigns and has organized seminars in prominent cities. They have been successfully conducting PR Campaigns over the years addressing issues like Rainwater Harvesting, Pollution, Women’s Safety and Health Issues, Road safety, Organ donation, Organic Farming, Child abuse, Autism and many others. The department has been doing various pre-campaign activities around the city creating awareness of the Plastic Ban GO 2019, Saving Trees, Saving Energy, Marine Pollution and Food Waste Management.
The Chief Guest inaugurated the week long campaign by launching the set of alternatives listed by the Government. He also said that the all colleges affiliated to Madras University will join in supporting this Plastic Ban GO 2019, M.O.P Vaishnav College being the first.
Post the inauguration, a panel discussion was organised on the topic: ‘Is Sustainable India a Myth or Reality?’ The panelists include Mr. D. Suresh also called as Solar Suresh who is known for his efforts and motivation for others to lead a completely Eco-friendly, self-sufficient and self-sustaining life by self-generating all the electricity and resources, Ms. Renu Narayanan who started the interactive online platform ‘The Dialogue’ for creating awareness regarding the harmful effects for plastic, Ms. Bhanu who is the founder of ‘Thumbnail Pads’ an initiative to create awareness about using cloth sanitary napkins, Dr. Babu marine biologist and active trustee of Nizhal NGO and Mr. Vamsi Kapivilavai an active member of the Citizen Consumer and Civic Action Group. The panelists had an hour-long session on different ways to sustainable living, its causes and effects. Various events are scheduled to happen in the next four days to enforce the message ‘Save the Earth’.
