Sony Vizha launches Tamil Idol with A.R. Rahman, opening auditions across the state
Beginning 15th August, aspiring singers can audition by submitting their entries online through the Sony LIV app
Music has always been at the heart of Tamil Nadu’s cultural identity. From temple hymns and folk traditions to cinema classics and independent music, every corner of the state has a voice waiting to be heard. Now, that voice has the opportunity to take centre stage as Sony Vizha unveils Tamil Idol, the first-ever Tamil edition of one of the world’s most iconic singing competition formats.
Following the recently announced collaboration between Sony Vizha and A.R. Rahman, the much-awaited project is finally revealed as Tamil Idol, a landmark musical journey that places performance at the forefront, celebrating raw talent, unforgettable stage presence, and the power of music to transform lives. With A.R. Rahman leading the search, the show aims to discover, celebrate, and nurture the next extraordinary Tamil voice.
As Sony Vizha’s flagship global format, Tamil Idol reflects the channel’s commitment to bringing internationally celebrated entertainment formats to Tamil audiences while showcasing the richness of local talent and culture. Produced by Fremantle India, the show will be available across Sony Vizha and Sony LIV, creating a unified entertainment destination where world-class formats and Tamil storytelling come together across both television and digital platforms.
Marking the official beginning of Tamil Idol, A.R. Rahman announced the opening of auditions from 15th August, inviting aspiring singers across Tamil Nadu to register through the Sony LIV app.

Through this journey, we uncover new talent, fresh perspectives, and the untold stories of generations.
