Abhishek Bachchan has made a mark in the industry with his versatile acting. From his debut film to his recently released web-series Breathe - Into the Shadows he has portrayed varied characters in the past twenty years with ease. He made his debut on OTT with this show that also stars Nithya Menen and Amit Sadh in lead roles. The admirers have found a way to connect with Junior Bachchan during a difficult time in his life through the show. Soon all social media platforms started buzzing with best wishes from his fans who are praying for the actor’s recovery from the pandemic.

20 years of Abhishek Bachchan: Eight films that have proved to be milestones for the actor's career 

Actor Abhishek Bachchan will be marking his 20th year in the film industry as his debut film Refugee was released on June 30, 2020. Abhishek who is active on Instagram, keeps sharing the BTS stories from the shoots. He recently started sharing about a few moments close to his heart from his journey of two decades in the segment, #RoadTo20.  In these 20 years, Abhishek Bachchan has undoubtedly given us a several outstanding films that cinephiles will never forget.   

 1.      Refugee (2000) – As the 20th-century came to an end, the film journey of Junior Bachchan began. It was the year 2000 when J.P. Dutta’s directorial Refugee opened the Bollywood gates for two brilliant stars we have today Abhishek Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor Khan. The film had an interesting plot that revolved around a love story which blossomed within the tension at the Indo-Pak border.

 2.      Yuva (2004) – After his debut, AB Junior was a part of many versatile films which led him to the Mani Ratnam directorial, Yuva. The political thriller was a multi-starrer that showed the audience a never seen before side of Abhishek. The actor played a grey character with many interesting layers. With a group of co-stars by his side, Abhishek effortlessly went under the skin of Lallan which won him his first Filmfare Award. 

 3.      Dhoom (2004) – Dhoom became a huge commercial hit for Junior Bachchan and went on to be a significant part of his career going ahead too! The film was the talk of B-Town with its stylish feel and suave characters. AB’s ACP Jay Dixit became a major hit with his straight-faced humour and no-nonsense attitude. With Dhoom 2 (2006) and Dhoom 3 (2013), the actor took the character one step ahead every time and entertained the audience thoroughly.

 4.      Sarkar (2005) – This was the first time the father-son duo came together to replicate their real-life relationship on screen. Abhishek played a businessman, son of a firebrand politician. The plot of the film is intense and has a perfect blend of politics, crime, and family drama. The film showed the critics as well as the audience the extreme range of the star’s acting prowess.

 5.      Bunty Aur Babli (2005) – Bunty Aur Babli starred Rani Mukerjee and Abhishek Bachchan in the lead who played the perfect con-couple. The multitude of characters they essay to con people is the novelty of the film. And of course, another huge novelty was the coming together of Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek on the big screen for the very first time. This film helped in bringing the nuanced comedic side of AB Junior who wielded the same magic in many of his other films. 

 6.      Guru (2007) – One of the most successful films, both critically and commercially, for Abhishek was Guru. The world that Mani Ratnam created with Gurukant Desai in centre was one in which the actor seamlessly adjusted. He worked on his dialect, he changed his physicality and gave it more than his hundred percent for this role of a small-town boy turned into the country biggest tycoon. The role of Guru Bhai won the actor a lot of love from the fans and lot of trophies at the award ceremonies.

 7.      Paa (2009) – Unlike Sarkar where the father-son duo Big B and Jr Bachchan replicated the real-life relation on-screen, Paa was the film where they there was an interesting role-reversal. Big B played the role of a 12-year-old who happens to be Abhishek’s son. It talks about a disease called Progeria which Amitabh Bachchan suffers from in the film, making them the right fit for this novel idea. The R Balki directorial became special for everyone not only because of this unique dynamic displayed in it but also because Abhishek, who turned a producer with the film, won the National Award for it too.

 8.      Manmarziyaan (2018) – Manmarziyaan saw Abhishek Bachchan come back to the silver screen after a two-year break. The excitement among his fans was palpable when the trailer had released and AB Junior lived up to the promise with his portrayal of Robbie. His easy-going avatar in the first half of the film put a smile on all our faces. And, when the explosion of emotion came later, the audience was left awestruck once again by AB Junior.

As Abhishek Bachchan completes two decades in the industry, he is now all set to start his third decade with some amazing movies live The Big Bull, Bob Biswas and Ludo which are expected to release soon.

1. Bunty Aur Babli (2005)

2. Bluffmaster! (2005)

Bluffmaster! is one of the many movies from the mid-2000s which are still cherished by the audience. Abhishek Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh’s hilarious duo and the chemistry with Priyanka Chopra Jonas is still praised by everyone. Even though Junior Bachchan’s character Roy was a fraudster who tries to change his way of living for his girlfriend, the situations he must deal with throughout the movie, as well as his reactions to those situations, are hilarious.

3. Dostana (2008)

Produced by Karan Johar, Dostana starred Abhishek Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and John Abraham in lead roles. Not only did Abhishek and John give bromance a new meaning, but their on-screen chemistry as they pretended to be gay men in love and their back-and-forth with Kirron Kher, who essayed the role of AB’s mother in the film, left fans rolling on the floor with laughter and wanting for more.

4. Bol Bachchan (2012)

Time and again AB junior has proved his range as an actor by portraying different shades of characters. In this film, he played his namesake, Abhishek Bachchan, a simple man who wants to work hard for his family who transforms himself into Abbas Ali, an effeminate man and classical Kathak dancer, was well-appreciated by the audience as well as critics. His impeccable comic timing, dialogue deliveries and his well-suited body language when portraying Abbas created comedic ripples and left the fans in splits.

5. Happy New Year (2014)

One of the biggest commercial successes for the actor, Junior Bachchan’s role in the movie was loved by everyone. Directed by Farah Khan, the heist comedy saw Abhishek as a Maharashtrian drunkard, Nandu Bhide who was a look-alike of Vicky Grover, the son of the movie’s villain Charan Grover. Being the amazing actor that he is, Abhishek managed to impress the audience by portraying two different personalities flawlessly.

6. Housefull 3 (2016)

The Housefull franchise has always managed to create laughter amongst the masses.  1.    Lallan in Yuva – The critically acclaimed 2004 Mani Ratnam’s political drama ‘Yuva’ was a multi-starrer but it was Lallan’s character that left the audience spell-bound. Lallan was raw, rustic, abusive, greedy, and dangerous, and Abhishek Bachchan molded himself into the character and the personality quite well. His dynamic act in the film is till date considered to be one of his most memorable performance.

 2.      Rakesh/Bunty in Bunty Aur Babli - The story, sizzling chemistry between Rani and Abhishek, a rather fun and entertaining plot with mind-blowing soundtracks went on to win hearts of audiences all over.  The actor was widely praised for his conman act and the movie went on to become one of the highest-grossing films of 2005.

 3.      ACP Jay Dixit in Dhoom Series – Who doesn’t love the Dhoom series? Since 2004, the trio of films in this series has left us wanting more and Abhishek Bachchan’s portrayal of ACP Jay Dixit is a huge part of it. He has shown us versatility with the character arc of Jay Dixit who is always on a hunt for the antagonist in the movie. The series surely couldn’t have been a hit without the Bachchan junior playing the stylish, no-nonsense role of a cop.

 4.      Guru Bhai in Guru – Mani Ratnam teamed up with Abhishek Bachchan again for Guru which became Bachchan’s highest-grossing and second most critically acclaimed film after Yuva. The rag to riches story saw Bachchan portray Gurukant Desai - from a young and ambitious dreamer to an aging and ailing billionaire. The actor beautifully owned the film and was widely appreciated for the performance.

 5.      Robbie in Manmarziyaan – Robbie was someone who was serious and polite, spoke so softly that every girl’s family would want him for their daughter. Abhishek Bachchan’s performance as Robbie left the audience go crazy over the intensive, fiery, and yet a decent act. Anurag Kashyap’s directorial love triangle was a reminder to the audience that Abhishek Bachchan is much more than what we have been seeing.
