Apollo Hospitals group, Asia’s largest and most trusted multi-specialty chain of hospitals today organised a one day workshop for the doctor’s fraternity on “Detection and Management of Child Abuse” at Apollo Children’s Hospital. The workshop was inaugurated by Ms. Suneeta Reddy, Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals Group.
The joint conference by Apollo Children’s hospital and TULIR (Ngo) is a forum for presentations and discussions about multi-disciplinary efforts to investigate, treat and eradicate clinical issues during detection and treatment of child abuse.
Child abuse is a serious social issue with high morbidity and mental stress; worldwide, 155 000 deaths occur annually in children as a result of abuse or neglect.

1 Preventing recurrent abuse or recognizing early abuse is difficult but essential if long-term effects are to be limited. Although victims of child abuse have higher emergency department use than the general pediatric population, child abuse unfortunately often remains unrecognized in the emergency department. Implementing a uniform screening protocol for child abuse in emergency departments could increase detection rates, leading to a decrease in the short- and long-term effects of child abuse.
Dr.Jagadeesh Narayan Reddy, a Professor of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology of Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre, Bangalore and Ms.Vidya Reddy, TULIR addressed the seminar where the Government policies and legal implications of CSA were explained to the medical fraternity.
