 Marathi film ‘Drishtant’ breaks the barrier to become the first feature film to have a blind cast

• The makers have onboard visually challenged singers, musicians as well as dubbing artists

Marathi films have always known for their many unique features that they offer to the audience and one of them is powerful content. Right from the advent of cinemas, we have seen various experiments happening in the film industry whether, in Bollywood or Regional cinemas, Drishtant is all set to surprise us in a very different way. 

‘Drishtant’ which is in the post-production stage stars visually challenged actors for the first time who will play characters with the same disability they have in real life and this is one of India's most proud moment in the history of cinema. Not only actors but the singers, musicians and dubbing artists will be the talent who are facing the same disability. 

 

 Directed by Abhijit K Zanjal, the film will act as a motivational pad for the aspiring people out there with any kind of disability and so the normal ones can perceive the world in a better way.

Shot in Goa, the film revolves around the lead character Anjinkya essayed by debut actor Hemendra. The film also stars actors such as Babita, Ratan and Yogesh Rao in pivotal roles. The movie touches upon the importance of life and other social messages. Another unique feature of the film is that the makers want to cater to all demographics which includes the deaf and the blind. Hence, the film can be heard by the blind and seen by the deaf apart from the normal viewing for a regular abled audience. 

Film's objective is to get people to open their eyes to the world around them and see the beautiful things they have, which brings the subject of organ donation, a noble cause that the film promotes to help the biologically less fortunate. 

Produced by BM Productions, Polaroid Media, Sambhav Dawar, Tanmay Telang, Harshvardhan and Tripur Singh. The film is in the post-production stage.

The film is written and directed by Raja Ramamurthy, who earlier shot to fame for his web series titled 'America Mappillai' on ZEE5 which was based on the LGBTQ community, the first of its kind in Tamil.

Speaking about this Original Feature Film, Director Raja Ramamurthy says, “The story revolves around a girl from a conservative family who is in that awkward stage between being a curious teenager and a smart woman. She struggles to strike a balance between societal expectations and personal desires. This is a female-centric film in the truest sense not just because of its concept but because the cast and crew are predominantly women, this was a conscious decision to capture the essence of the ‘female gaze’.

The protagonist’s role will be extremely relatable to the millennial audience and I’m elated to have Akshara Haasan play it. Akshara Haasan is all set to surprise the audience with an exhilarating performance in a character that she’s never played before. We are thrilled to unveil the film’s first-look on September 14th, 2020.

In the past few years, Bhushan Kumar’s T-series has paved a path for many upcoming and budding talents. Bhushan Kumar has presented many artists with their own single as well as a commercial break. Recently, the head honcho of T-series Bhushan Kumar visited the set of Indian Idol season 11,during the finale.

The ace-producer presented the winners with their awards, but he also announced a collaboration with Indian Idol 11 winner Sunny Hindustani, who hails from Bhatinda. Known for impressing the judges and the audience by singing Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s songs, Sunny took home the trophy along with the prize money of Rs 25 lakh, a car and a singing contract with T-Series.

Bhushan Kumar has had a knack of picking out gems, this collaboration will surely be a treat for the audience!
