 Book Release Event(Launch Function)

Author -Leslie Carvalho, writer, producer, director and painter 

In conversation with Jennifer Arul, a veteran broadcast Journalist 

Excerpts from the Book read by -Britiny Catherine Barren , a scholar in English Literature.

The event was in association with Madras Book Club.





Leslie Carvalho was born and raised in Bangalore and went to school and college there. 

He spent a year in Germany on a cultural exchange programme and then studied filmmaking at the New York Film Academy.


His student film, Cherish & I won several awards.

He wrote, produced and directed his debut feature, 'The Outhouse' which was awarded the 'Aravindan Puruskaram' and 'The Gollapudi Srinivas National Award' for best debutant director. 


He then wrote produced and directed a short film,  'A Woman Too Many' 


He consults as a script doctor.


He's worked on several books on Bangalore, ' Bangalore Blue ' ' Past & Curious ' and ' Sports Legends of Bangalore '


'Smoke on the backwaters' is his debut novel.


Leslie has been to several National and International Juries several times. The National Film Awards, Indian Panorama, State Film Awards, and Student Film Juries.


He is a guest lecturer at a few colleges for Film and Communication students. He's been on the Academic Counsel of the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute of India and has been on the Film Finance Committee of the Entertainment Society of Goa.


An avid sports and games enthusiast, Leslie  participates in the seniors athletics and tennis championships.


He is working on a Tamil film, 'Raddiwallah' and a book of short stories.
