Second day of race walking held in the city

Second day of race walking held in the city starting from Anna Salai*

Athletes from around the country actively participated on the second-day of Race Walking competition organised by the Tamil Nadu Athletic Association on Sunday.

The competition was flagged off by Indian Athletic Association Secretary, Wilson and Secretary of Tamil Nadu Athletic Association, Latha at 6 am from Monroe statue in Anna Salai. 

The competition was held in three categories -- 50 kilometer and 10 kilometer men's and 10 kilometer women's race walking. While men participated in the 50 kilometer category, women and men aged below 20 years took park in the 10 kilometer category.

















For the winners, prizes were distributed by Gem Hospitals Dr. Senthilnathan, Thiru. C.K. Valson, Secretary, AFI   and Secretary of Tamil Nadu Athletic Association,Ms.Latha. In the 50 km category, Jithendar Singh Rathore hailing from Rajasthan finished the race in 4 hours 23 minutes and 23 seconds to come first. He was followed by Joshi Sagar by Gujarat who finished the race in 4 hours, 24 minutes and 21 seconds. Third prize was bagged by Pawan Kumar from Haryana. He finished the 50 km race in 4 hours 30 minutes and 49 seconds. 

In the 10km men's category, Suraj Panwar from Uttarakhand won the first Prize, Junaid (Haryana) and Barman Ali (UP) won second and third places respectively. 

In 10 km women's category, Rogi Patel of Uttarakhand came first followed by Suvarna from MP and Gurpreet Kaur of Punjab.

This competition will serve as a trial for selection of race walkers in Asian Race walking Championship to be held at Naomi City (Japan) on 17 March 2019.
