Superstar Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj are teaming up for the crazy pan India action movie 'Coolie' produced by Kalanidhi Maran under the prestigious Sun Pictures banner. King Nagarjuna is playing a key role. Aamir Khan, Sathyaraj, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Shruti Haasan are seen in important roles. The movie has created huge buzz with its promotional content. The movie will be grandly released in Telugu states on August 14th through Asian Multiplex Private Limited owned by D. Suresh Babu, Dil Raju, Sunil Narang, Bharat Narang. On this occasion, the makers organized a grand pre-release event & press meet.
*Superstar Rajinikanth's Special Video Byte:*
"To the Telugu film audience. Greetings, I am 50 years old in the industry. I am happy that my film 'Coolie' directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj is coming out on August 14 this year. Coolie is my diamond jubilee picture. If Telugu has SS Rajamouli then Tamil has Lokesh Kanagaraj. All his films are super hits. Another great thing is that many stars have acted in it. I am doing a film with Sathyaraj after many years along with Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Soubin and Aamir Khan in a special appearance. He is acting for the first time in South films. Especially Nagarjuna is playing the villain in it.
After hearing the subject of 'Coolie', I got interested in playing the role of Simon. I was waiting for who would play that role. Because it will be very stylish. We searched for months. We sat with an actor for this role six times. Lokesh told me that he would convince him somehow. I asked, 'Who is he?' I was shocked when he mentioned Nagarjuna's name. Later, I felt happy to know that he had accepted. Nagarjuna is not a person who does films for money. He doesn't need that. Should he always be a good guy? He must have accepted the role of Simon thinking that. We both did a film 33 years ago. He is the same as he was then. He still looks young. I have lost my hair. While working with Nagarjuna, I asked him, 'What is your health secret?', he replied 'Nothing sir.. Exercise, swimming, a little diet. Dinner is done at 6 pm. The genes that my father got are also a reason. Apart from that, my father gave me advice. He told me not to let outside things get into my head'. We both went to Thailand for a 17-day schedule. I will never forget that in my life. Watching his performance as Simon, I was amazed. It's like Basha- Anthony. Coolie- Simon. My Nagarjuna was amazing as Simon. Anirudh gave wonderful music. I want you all to support the film and hope it does well," he said.
*King Nagarjuna:*
"After doing 'Ninnepelladatha', if you are doing 'Annamayya'... some people tried to discourage you by saying, 'Why such a story now'. But I like novelty. If you don't get bored after going to the set, you have to do different roles. I have worked with that effort for so long. Even though I took some beatings. I have also received good and good successes. One day Lokesh met me and said, 'If you want me to make you a villain, I will tell you a story. Otherwise, I will talk about some movies and drink tea and leave.' Lokesh said, Kaithi and Vikram are my favourite films. After watching those films, I strongly wanted to work with this director forever. After telling the story of 'Coolie', I liked it a lot. He asked, 'Did Rajini sir accept this story?' Because in this story, the character of 'Simon' is like the hero in the story. Lokesh portrays the hero and villain as equals. For the first time in my career, I recorded Lokesh telling the story. I listened to it again and again after going home. I suggested some changes that I felt were necessary. Others would take it easy. But, I liked the way Lokesh portrayed the character of 'Simon' by considering the things I said. As Rajini sir said, it's not good to always act as good guys in films (laughs).
Our first shoot took place in Vizag. A video recorded during the second day of shooting was leaked on social media and went viral. After watching the scene, I asked Lokesh, 'Can people be this evil?' He said they are more evil than this. He said there is an evil inside you too. I took it as a compliment to the character's performance. Sun Pictures, which produced this film, does not hesitate to spend money. But, Lokesh completed the film with Rs. 5 crore left over from the budget they gave. He works with six cameras during the shoot. Most of the scenes were okay in a single take. When I saw the cut version of the film and was told about the dubbing, I thought, did I act so well? I felt. Even though I was given a negative role in the movie, the experience of doing this role was positive. Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Soubin, Upendra all acted wonderfully.
During this shoot, Rajini sir himself came and spoke to me. That was his great thing. When he met me, he just stared at me for a while. He said, 'If I had known you were like this, I would have told Lokesh not to have Nagarjuna in our film.' (Laughs) It was amazing to sit and talk to him. There is nothing special to say about his acting and style. Even after all these years and after doing so many films, Rajini sir goes to the side and practices dialogues. They will try to do something new. We shot the action sequence at night for 17 days in Thailand. More than 350 people worked very hard. On the last day, Rajini sir called everyone and gave each of them a packet and said to take something for the children when they go home. He is such a kind-hearted person. Working with him is a wonderful experience.
I have no words to say about Anirudh's music. He keeps giving hits in a row. The background score in this is amazing. Thank you to everyone who worked on this film. This film gave me a very positive experience. It gave me a lot of new experience. I felt like a better actor doing this film. I wish this film a big success," he said.
