On behalf of the Eelam Tamil diaspora organisations around the world we

On behalf of the Eelam Tamil diaspora organisations around the world we write this letter to seek your support for our campaign against the web series Family man 2.

We, as victims of the biggest genocide in this century, note with concern the falsification of the just struggle of Eelam Tamils against the state oppression in the above web series and strongly condemn it.

As the first step, we have registered our protest through memorandums to Amazon Prime head offices for their part in releasing this web series on their platform. Despite the difficult period of COVID-19 pandemic, the world-wide Tamil diaspora has spontaneously started to demonstrate in front of the Amazon Prime offices. First of such demonstration was in front of Amazon Offices in London on Monday, 21 June 2021 adhering to COVID-19 regulations.

It is very sad to note that the series has been produced using our own Tamil brothers and sisters, especially since some of the actors and the script writers are from Tamil Nadu. Even though we tend to believe that they have participated through their lack of understanding of the atrocities encountered by the Eelam Tamils and the micro political agenda in this series that try to tarnish the image of a victim community, such behaviours have hurt us very much and pained immeasurably.

Although the directors/producers of Family Man 2 series have stated that the series have been a fictional product, the usage of words such as ‘Eelam Tamils’, ‘Point Pedro’, ‘Eelam’ and ‘North Sri Lanka’ as well as similarity of scenes to the last stages of the genocidal war in Sri Lanka and violent streaks exhibited by the characters clearly demonstrates the fabricated agenda to illustrate the Eelam Tamils as people prone to mindless violence.

The life of Tamil women in the freedom struggle has been falsely characterised, showing that these women would go to any extent, even to sexually expose themselves, to achieve their goals and this has spread shock waves to the world at large. This is deplorable.

In addition, this series depicts Eelam Tamils as terrorists, wherever they reside while the reality is the opposite. For the past twelve years, we have been seeking remedies against the injustices caused by the genocide in a peaceful manner and in accordance with the mechanisms of international laws.  Still these kinds of steps are being taken with the aim of suppressing our efforts.

All the Tamil people in Tamil Nadu have always supported and continue to support their brothers and sisters in Eelam. Tamil Nadu film industry has also always supported the Eelam Tamils cause. Therefore, we humbly request that they should avoid the production of these types of films in the future. We also request that a resolution is passed in the South Indian Artists Association, Directors Association and the Producers Council not to produce or release this sort of films in the future.

We therefore request our brothers and sisters in the Tamil cinema field especially actors, script writers, directors, producers, and any other film industrialists not to take part in any similar actions in future.

Australian Tamil Congress (ATC), British Tamils Forum (BTF), Irish Tamils Forum (ITF), La Maison du Tamil Eelam (MTE), Norwegian Council of Eelam Tamils (NCET), National Council of Canadian Tamils (NCCT), Solidarity Group for Peace and Justice (SGPJ - South Africa) and United States Tamil Action Group (USTAG) have collectively written a letter to Tamil Nadu Films Directors Association, Tamil Film Producers Council, and the South Indian Artists Association in this respect.

We attach a copy of a letter sent to the South Indian Artists Association (SIAA) and request you to convey it to the public at large.

VLCC Institute launches blended learning for its beauty and nutrition courses

Integrates technology and digital media with traditional instructor-led classroom activities, in an Industry first

VLCC Institute of Beauty & Nutrition, one of the leading beauty and nutrition skill development institute chains in India, has launched a new delivery methodology for its entry-level and skill upgradation courses, combining technology and digital media with traditional instructor-led classroom activities. This integrated blended learning format, enabled by a mobile app, will deliver higher reach to enrol and continuously upgrade a larger student body, with theory component and demos of all courses being delivered through mobile app and practical training being given at the respective VLCC Institutes campus. An industry-first, this format would also enable a superior end-to-end student experience from choosing the course, course delivery, certification and post-certification upgradations. This new methodology of course curriculum delivery is being implemented in all the 94 VLCC Institutes across 67 cities in India.

Explaining the details of the Blended Learning initiative, Mr. Jayant Khosla, Managing Director & Group Head, VLCC Health Care Limited, said, “As pioneers and leaders in the wellness & beauty domain, we have always endeavoured to be on the forefront of cutting edge technology. The launch and adoption of blended learning at our VLCC Institutes of Beauty & Nutrition is yet another step forward in this direction. It is well established that blended learning can be more effective than purely face-to-face or purely online classes and can result in high levels of student achievement1.”

Through VLCC Institutes, the company has always encouraged and guided students who are looking to build a career in the Wellness & Beauty sector and presented with multiple course options to specialize in. However, ever since the COVID-19 pandemic has hit the country, it has disturbed the skill development segment to a larger scale. Recognising that while practical or hands-on training cannot be replaced, the academic component of respective courses could very well be taken on-line, VLCC Institutes have adopted the blended learning methodology with the launch of a comprehensive mobile app to effectively support the new learning technique.

For uninterrupted course content delivery, each VLCC Institute student is provided with a Unique User ID to access the app and the course that they have enrolled, which ensures their personalized learning. The students can revisit the lectures and other study material for thorough understanding of the subject as per their convenience. The aim is to deliver all-encompassing vocational learning and training to students under the guidance of industry and healthcare specialists for a pragmatic approach and help them achieve their career goals.

Various features of VLCC Blended Learning Mobile App. :

JICA undertakes PAN India study to understand the

JICA undertakes PAN India study to understand the impact of COVID-19 on the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs)

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and V-shesh Learning Services Private Limited have undertaken a pan-India study to comprehend the “Impact of COVID-19 on people with disabilities” in India in the first quarter of the current year 2021. The focus of this study was to determine and assess the medium to long term effects of COVID-19 on the lives of Persons with Disabilities. The pandemic has put immense burden on the government delivery system, as Governments, DPOs and NGOs have encountered significant challenges to provide aid, relief materials, and assistance to Persons with Disabilities across India. These impediments were most prominent in areas pertaining to education, training, jobs, and daily living. Through the inputs from this research, JICA aims to establish appropriate development plans in response to emergency circumstances such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

The study focuses on three key points, (i) Impact of COVID-19 pandemic on Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), (ii) Response to the pandemic for PWDs by Government (Central and State) and, (iii) Recommendations for JICA’s COVID-19 response support programs specifically targeting PWDs.

Covid-19 has had many detrimental impacts on the lives of Persons with Disabilities. A total of four major impacts were identified during the study: Daily Living, Education, access to Healthcare facilities and Livelihood. In trying to maintain social distance, they often had isolate from their families which led to feelings of loneliness and confusion. People with disabilities depend majorly on care giving support, 64.8% of the respondents reported facing severe challenges in accessing care giving services due to fear of infection and limited transport. Accessibility to online learning proved to be another challenge due to absence of smartphone or laptop.

Even when online education did take place, 70% respondents mentioned that the overall learning experience was not at all effective. Students with disabilities in higher education institutions faced incremental challenges without additional faculty time, student volunteers, scribes etc. Amidst the pandemic, Persons with Disabilities have often been unable to seek healthcare services and a shocking 47.4% of respondents were amongst those. Shortage of medical products, problems with supply chains and transportation further added to their distress and 25.85% respondents faced reduced or no access to prescribed medicines. Loss of livelihood and a steady source of income has affected many persons with disabilities, 13.4% of the respondents lost their jobs during the pandemic and among those who continued jobs 64.8% mentioned facing obstacles at work due to inaccessibility and social inclusion. A lack of digital connect affected those in rural areas far more as they lost access to skilling and training opportunities.  People with lesser known disabilities faced inconveniences with access to critical care due to COVID-19 protocol.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Katsuo Matsumoto, Chief Representative, JICA India said, “COVID-19 has had a detrimental effect on India's underprivileged and marginalized communities. JICA aspires to be a pillar of support in the face of adversity, such as the current pandemic. The intensity and impact of COVID-19 on the PWDs has been far more severe as compared to their non-disabled peers, especially in areas like daily living, education, health, and livelihood. JICA aims to create support programmes particularly to help and assist PWDs”

The study has helped JICA in identifying the four major sectors that could benefit from JICA support programmes. (a) Education & Daily living; (b) Skill Development, Employment & Livelihood; (c) Health & Well being and (d) A Private Sector programme to address gaps across sectors through an enterprise-led approach.

Based on these findings from the report, JICA, with the help of the respective Government Implementing Agencies aims to rehabilitate the existing projects, especially those in the education, skill & livelihood, and health sector to add a disabilities component as an affirmative response to mitigate the impact of COVID-19.

What is 3D Printing and How Does It help

What is 3D Printing and How Does It Help Healthcare?

Each person’s body is unique — 3D printing really shines in healthcare applications by enabling customized solutions. Whether it is a cast printed from a 3D scan of a child’s forearm, new tissue to repair an injury or entirely new organs manufactured with embedded vascular structure, researchers are creating new applications for 3D printing in healthcare at a lightning pace.

3D Printing, or additive manufacturing, is the process of taking a computer-designed 3D model and manufacturing it into a three-dimensional model by fusing material together. There are many different types of 3D printing, which use a variety of base materials: plastics, metals, even human cells. By building up the material, typically in layers, you can produce highly complex shapes and designs not possible in traditional manufacturing.

Because of the ability to individualize 3D printing in healthcare, surgeons can perform practice sessions on duplicate copies of patient’s organs to improve success rates. On the nanoscale, doctors can perform more precisely targeted drug delivery.

HOW HEALTHCARE IS USING 3D PRINTING GLOBALLY

3D printing in healthcare is a growing subsector. Some uses have reached global application, but many are still in the research phase. 3D printing of prosthetics, for example, has enabled more affordable custom prosthetic manufacturing in lower-income communities around the world.

The COVID-19 pandemic has reemphasized the need for open-source medical supply designs that can be shared globally, and 3D printed locally. Engineers have made personal protective equipment, ventilator supplies and manual tools to help our healthcare providers stay safe and effective as they fight the spread of the disease.

The adoption of 3D printing has a huge scope in India’s healthcare sector. Despite its introduction into the Indian market more than 25 years ago, the adoption rate has been quite slow. However, the market is gradually beginning to realise the advantages of 3D printing and additive manufacturing.

Actionable steps are being taken to enhance emerging technologies like blockchain and 3D printing, artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), all of which contribute to the efficiency of health care delivery. With these emerging technologies implemented, both the cost and way we treat certain ailments may begin to change.

THE FUTURE OF 3D PRINTING IN HEALTHCARE

Some of the research mentioned above can transform the way we treat organ failure. The idea of using a person’s own cells to 3D print new organs to reduce rejection rates like those seen in organ transplants, is intriguing.

As a new technology, improving consistency and reliability in 3D printing is hugely important as it moves into life-sustaining applications. We call a misplaced blob of plastic a print failure, but that would not be acceptable on the cellular level. Ideally, to improve the consistency and in-situ quality control of the 3D printing processes, especially for custom applications would enable greater expansion into medical fields.

For this reason, staff check-ins are held frequently, and insight surveys are conducted on a regular basis. During the COVID-19 pandemic, digital initiatives such as fitness programmes and mental health workshops were actively promoted.

Great Place to Work® is an independent and non-biased marker of a company’s commitment to its employees. Companies applying for the Great Place to Work certification cannot influence their results. The institute considers whether an organization that has met the threshold on Trust Index© (Trust Levels between Employees and the Organization) and Culture Audit© (Compare Your Workplace Culture with Competitors and the Best Companies) is also a ‘Great Place to Work® FOR ALL’.
