 Game of Loans is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language psychological drama film written and directed by Abhishek Leslie. Produced by N. Jeevanantham under the banner of JRG productions, the film stars Nivas Adithan, Abhinay Kinger and Athvik Jalandhar with Ester Noronha in a pivotal role. Set predominantly in a single location, the story unfolds over the course of one day, exploring themes of addiction, debt, and psychological breakdown.

Premise

The film follows Daniel, a jobless compulsive gambler whose life revolves around the instant gratification of online betting. One seemingly ordinary day, while his wife and child are away, Daniel’s monotonous gambling routine is interrupted by a sharp, unexplained noise at his doorstep. What begins as mild curiosity spirals into a tense and unpredictable encounter, as he is confronted by unexpected visitors who draw him into a dangerous game far beyond the digital realm.

Development

Game of Loans originated as a contained psychological drama concept developed by Abhishek Leslie. inspired by the growing impact of online gambling addiction in India. The script was written with a single-location setup to intensify the claustrophobic atmosphere and emphasize the mental unraveling of the protagonist.

The film also marks the comeback of actor Abhinay, who plays the principal antagonist. Known for his debut alongside Dhanush in Thulluvadho Ilamai, Abhinay faced significant personal challenges, before returning to the screen for this project.

Filming

Principal photography began in May 2023 in Bangalore, Karnataka. Most of the film was shot inside a single apartment set, with cinematography focusing on tight frames and muted tones to reflect the protagonist’s mental state. Filming was completed in 14 days.

Music

The original score is composed by Joe Costa, with the soundtrack designed to blend electronic beats with unsettling ambient textures, mirroring the protagonist’s adrenaline rush from gambling.

Themes

The film explores the intersection of addiction, financial desperation, and psychological manipulation. It addresses how technology enables compulsive gambling, the predatory nature of loan sharks, and the emotional toll on families.

Release

The title and first-look poster were unveiled on 13th August by actress Aishwarya Rajesh via social media. The film is scheduled for theatrical release in August
