Amit, a warmhearted Bengali-American from Cambridge, is the dependable friend everyone turns to in a crisis but struggles to find balance in work and love. Their reunion sparks a star-crossed romance and a scandalous affair that threatens to upend the fragile order of their insular immigrant community.

Unaccustomed Earth is produced by John Wells Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. The series brings together a distinguished creative team: acclaimed playwright and screenwriter Madhuri Shekar (3 Body Problem, The Nevers) serves as writer and showrunner, while Ritesh Batra (The Lunchbox) directs and executive produces the opening two episodes. Today sept 10th i complete 21 years of my journey  as an actor in the film industry. My first film #chellamay released this day in 2004. On this lovely milestone and occasion, 

I express my heartfelt gratitude and thanks  to my parents, my mentor #ActionKing Arjun sir, and Father Rajanayagam of Loyola College.

I stepped foot into the film industry with many dreams as an asst director but  your love, your trust, and your applause and appreciation, transformed me from being one among you into an actor who lives to entertain one and all. I would like to reiterate that i dont see this journey as my personal success — I see it as OUR success.

To the producers who gave me opportunities, the directors who shaped me, the music composers,who took me to every nook and corner of this world through their songs,lyricists cinematographers, technicians, co-actors, workers who toiled with me in every film, and ther theater owners, distributors, and theatre operators who brought my movies to you. And how can I forget my dearest media friends. Journalists and all forms of media who hav made me a responsible actor/person time and again— my sincere thanks to each and every one of you.

ஆனால்… இவைகளை எல்லாம் விட பெரிய சக்தியாக நான் கருதுவது என் உயிரான என் ரசிகர்கள். தமிழ் நாடு மட்டுமின்றி உலகம் முழுவதும் உள்ள ரசிகர்களான உங்கள் அன்பே என் உயிர்.

உங்கள் நம்பிக்கையே என் வலிமை. “நான் விழுந்தாலும் என்னை எழவைக்கும் ஏழுச்சி குரல்” நீங்கள் தான்.

என் நம்பிக்கையும் நீங்கள் தான்.

இந்த இருபத்தொன்று ஆண்டுகளில் எத்தனை சோதனைகளும், எத்தனை சவால்களும் வந்தாலும், எனக்கு துணையாக நின்று, என் அருகில் தோல் கொடுக்கும் தோழனாக இருந்தது நீங்கள் தான்.

மருத்துவம், பொறியியல், நர்சிங், மருந்தியல், சட்டம், வர்த்தகம், ஊடகம், கல்வி, கடல்சார் கல்வி, கணினி அறிவியல் போன்ற துறைகளில் பட்டப்படிப்புகளை வழங்குகிறது.  Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies (VISTAS) hosted its 16th Annual Convocation Ceremony today at the Pallavaram Vels University Campus, Chennai, during which 4,992 graduates were conferred degrees across various disciplines. The graduates included 3,631 Undergraduates, 1,155 Postgraduates, 2 M.Phil scholars, and 204 Ph.D. awardees.

The ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Hon’ble Minister of State (i/c) for Law and Justice, and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India, who delivered the convocation address praised the institution for shaping thousands of students and stressed the role of science and technology in making India self-reliant and achieving the 2047 vision. Recalling the evolution of industrial revolutions leading to Industry 4.0 powered by AI and digital tools, he urged graduates to drive innovation and outlined his “VISTAS” Vision, Innovation, Science, Technology, Advancement, and Sustainability. Quoting Thiruvalluvar, he highlighted the value of learning and ethics, noted India’s rise as the world’s fourth-largest economy soon to be third, and congratulated over 5,000 graduates, calling them the future of the nation. 

Honoris Causa Awardees

As part of the convocation, Vels University conferred Honorary Doctorate Degrees (Honoris Causa) on three eminent personalities for their exceptional contributions to their respective fields:

Thiru A.M. Gopalan – Founder & Chairman, Sree Gokulam Group of Companies

A leading entrepreneur and philanthropist, popularly known as “Gokulam Gopalan,” he has built one of South India’s most successful business conglomerates spanning finance, hospitality, healthcare, education, and entertainment. His vision has created employment for thousands and provided financial empowerment to countless families through Sree Gokulam Chit & Finance. He is also known for his philanthropic activities in education, healthcare, and social welfare.

Mr. Ravichandran Ashwin – Legendary Indian Cricketer

One of the most celebrated cricketers of modern times, Ashwin’s career stands decorated with 537 Test wickets, six Test centuries, and numerous records that place him among cricket’s all-time greats. A member of India’s 2011 ICC World Cup and 2013 ICC Champions Trophy-winning teams, he was also named the ICC Cricketer of the Year and Test Cricketer of the Year in 2016.

 Beyond cricket, Ashwin has inspired youth with his passion for technology, chess, and sports analysis through digital platforms. He retired from international cricket in December 2024 as India’s second-highest Test wicket-taker, leaving behind a lasting legacy.

Mr. Vetrimaaran – National Award-Winning Film Director

A filmmaker deeply committed to realism and social justice, Vetrimaaran has redefined Tamil cinema with powerful films such as Aadukalam, Visaranai, Asuran, and Viduthalai. His works are celebrated for addressing themes of inequality, justice, and human rights, earning both national and international recognition.

 His film Aadukalam won six National Awards, while Visaranai was India’s official entry to the Oscars. His creative voice has not only entertained audiences but also challenged them to reflect on pressing social issues, cementing his reputation as one of India’s most significant filmmakers.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Ishari K. Ganesh, Chancellor of Vels University, said:

 “It was a moment of great pride to honour leaders from business, sports, and cinema who have inspired millions. Their journeys are testaments to hard work, vision, and perseverance, and they will continue to motivate our graduates as they embark on their own paths of excellence.”

Directed by Arun Prabu and Starring Vijay Antony, the film releases on September 19

Tamil cinema has long embraced new talent—especially those who bring both screen presence and substance. The latest to step into the spotlight is Trupti Ravindra, an emerging actor from Dhule, Maharashtra, who is all set to make her Tamil debut as the female lead in Shakthi Thirumagan, opposite Vijay Antony. The film is directed by Arun Prabu, known for his critically acclaimed works Aruvi and Vazhl, and is slated for release on September 19, 2025.

A former software engineer with a degree in Computer Science, Trupti made a bold career shift after spending five years in theatre. Her grounding in the stage has given her a strong command over performance, which has since translated into notable appearances in national ad campaigns for brands like Eastern Masala, Lizol, Zepto, IETL, and Zydus.

“Theatre was my training ground. This debut means everything to me,” says Trupti. “Working with a team like this—director Arun Prabu, Vijay Antony sir, and the entire crew—has been inspiring and transformative.”

To further connect with Tamil audiences, Trupti has been learning the language and immersing herself in the culture. She praises Tamil cinema for its “depth in storytelling and emotional honesty,” and aspires to be part of narratives that are both rooted and impactful.

In Shakthi Thirumagan, Trupti plays a pivotal lead role that reflects her dual strengths—technical discipline and creative expression. With additional skills in dance and yoga, she is poised to take on diverse, character-driven roles across languages.

Her long-term vision is clear: to collaborate with visionary filmmakers and leave a lasting impact through roles that resonate long after the credits roll.
