Public Relations Society of India presents a talk on how does public relations survive

Public Relations Society of India presents a talk on how does public relations survive the harsh world of social media on 22nd October 2019

Public Relations Society of India recently presented a talk on ‘How do public relations survive the harsh world of social media’ with Guest Speaker Apsara Reddy on 22nd October 2019. Apsara Reddy shared her views on the same after which she was seen answering questions of the media as well as the guests who attended the talk.

“The public relations industry must have a social conscience and responsibility. In the attempt to publicise, image build and work on reputations, sometimes information that is harmful to society is peddled,” said Apsara Reddy

“Character assassination on social media amounts to cruelty and PR professionals operating in that space must push for more regulation or else it will result in too many personal battles and professional wars spilling into the digital space. In the name of freedom of speech, hate speech must be dealt with seriously” further added Apsara Reddy

Also adding to a question from former director of Air India and now a PR professional on the industry, Apsara said, “The industry needs proper regulation and a more sensitive approach to handling issues like National Security and Women’s rights, especially rape related reportage.

APSARA REDDY & KARNATAKA PRADESH MAHILA CONGRESS PROTEST AT KARNATAKA

APSARA REDDY & KARNATAKA PRADESH MAHILA CONGRESS PROTEST AT KARNATAKA  for the irresponsible and anti-human rights remarks on Transgender Community by the honourable Ex- Deputy CM K.S. Eshwarappa

Karnataka Pradesh Mahila Congress on 27th September 2019 condemned the irresponsible and anti-human rights remarks of the honourable Ex- Deputy CM K.S. Eshwarappa, who likened Congress leaders to “Hijadas” implying that leaders lack courage. We wanted to remind him that these statements are uninformed, disrespectful and demeaning to the transgender community. The magnitude of courage required for a person to identify themselves as a transgender is immense. While we are struggling for acceptance and equality, these kind of remarks deny us the right to be respectable members of our society.

Dr. Pushpa Amarnath, the State President of Mahila Congress stated, “This comment is deeply hurtful for a group of people who have spent their entire life for their dignity and are struggling to overcome the prejudices and the glass ceiling. The BJP politicians use freedom of speech to dictate Human Rights”.

As my colleagues from Karnataka sat in peaceful protest at Chakravarthy Layout near Palace Road, the Karnataka Police under the instruction of the Minister manhandled women and transgenders with little or no respect for their dignity, I strongly condemn the B S Yedryurappa Government that is constantly working against the minorities, women and backward classes by coming to power in unscrupulous ways the least they can do is to respect the most disadvantaged communities.

I demand the resignation of the cowardly Minister who is a repeat offender when it comes to making insensitive and derogatory remarks, who from the protection of his position lashes out at the basic human rights of the disadvantaged. Many of my colleagues were brutally hurt and their sarees torn due to unreasonable force used by the Police. The Mahila Congress stands in solidarity with every community that is harassed, lives in fear and is subjugated by the BJP Government.

Ms.Apsara Reddy Strongly condemn remark

Ms.Apsara Reddy Strongly condemn remark Made by Karnataka Minister on Transgender Community
On 16th September 2019, Mr. ES Eshwarappa, (Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Government of Karnataka) made an extremely transphobic, sexist, cruel and anti-minority remark on the Transgender community by stating that “Congress MLAs who expressed desire to come to BJP, but claimed that they have over 50,000 Muslim votes in their constituencies and may face defeat if they lose that, which is kind of a ‘Hijra’ (eunuch) behaviour.”

Ms.Apsara Reddy, National General Secretary, Mahila Congress official spokesperson retaliates to the remark made by Mr. ES Eshwarappa,Karnataka Minister.

"I strongly condemn his uninformed, disrespectful and demeaning remark over the Transgender community. The magnitude of courage required for a person to identify as belonging to the transgender community is immense. Transgenders need and deserve acceptance and equality. This sort of commentary doesn’t just denigrate the trans experience, it denies the fact that even transgenders are an integral and right thinking respectable members of the society. This remark made by the Minister is deeply hurtful for a group of people who have spent whole of their lives fighting to be heard and understood for who they really are when the societal glass of prejudice is removed.
The BJP minister must first understand that courage comes from expression of self and not denial of self. Hence, I seek an unconditional apology for the remark."
